 An extremely small number of Koreans are involved in the social welfare service as volunteers, a recent survey found.
Conducted by the Korean Council on Social Welfare Education, the survey found only 0.15 percent of the entire population, or 71,521, actively participated in volunteering at 957 such institutions across the country.

The number of Koreans who expressed their intention of serving as volunteers totaled 125,231, of which the cited number of applicants participated in social welfare programs at least once, in the ratio of 1.5 people in every 1,000, the survey revealed.

Only 2 percent of the active population, or 1,439 people were serious enough to offer their help for social welfare causes at least once a month.

우리나라 국민 중 극소수만이 사회복지시설에서 자원봉사를 하고 있는 것으로 조사되었다.

한국사회복지협의회가 20일 사회복지 봉사활동 인증센터로 지정된 전국 957개의 자원봉사자 사업장을 상대로 조사한 결과, 지난해 사회복지시설 자원봉사자는 모두 7만1천521명으로 이는 전체 인구의 0.15%에 불과했다.

인증센터에 등록된 자원봉사자는 12만5천231명인 데 반해 실제로 한 번 이상 활동한 자원봉사자는 1천명에 1.5명 꼴로 나타났다.

또 매월 1회 이상 정기적, 지속적으로 활동한 자원봉사자는 1천439명으로 실제 자원봉사자의 2%에 지나지 않았다.
